The NBA is back this Tuesday, and better yet, we get this back:
Hannah Storm get at me, but I think I’ll be fiiiine with Taylor Rooks:
No pointless openers here, let’s get it:
EASTERN CONFERENCE
ATLANTIC DIVISION
Boston Celtics
Last Season: 61-21 | Lost in East Semis (4-2 vs Knicks)
Key Additions: Anfernee Simons, Chris Boucher
Key Losses: Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porziņģis, Al Horford, Luke Kornet
Biggest Question: How far can Jaylen Brown carry them?
Over/Under: 43.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Tatum’s postseason injury reset everything. The payroll purge cost Boston its defensive core and front-court IQ. Brown now headlines a leaner roster that can still scrap into April, but it’s a grind. Simons adds juice; White keeps the floor organized. Without Porziņģis and Horford, rim protection rests on Queta and Boucher—a thin proposition.
Projected Five: White | Simons | Brown | Boucher | Queta
Expectation: Play-In → First-Round exit
Iconic Dish:
Kunefe, buffalo mozzarella, kasseri, fresh bay leaf syrup, poached quince, Antep pistachios at Oleana
Brooklyn Nets
Last Season: 25-56 | 12th in East
Key Additions: Michael Porter Jr., Terance Mann, Egor Demin, Kobe Bufkin
Key Losses: Cam Johnson, D’Angelo Russell, Trendon Watford
Biggest Question: Can MPJ succeed outside Denver’s ecosystem?
Over/Under: 21.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Porter Jr. goes from a perfect system to a total rebuild. The shot will fall, but what happens when the structure disappears? Rookie Egor Demin (6’9 guard with real feel) is their curiosity. Claxton and Mann are trade chips; development is the plan. Expect glossy stat lines and not much else.
Projected Five: Demin | Cam Thomas | Mann | MPJ | Claxton
Expectation: Lottery team → asset accumulation season
Iconic Dish:
Burger at Red Hook Tavern
New York Knicks
Last Season: 51-31 | Lost East Final (4-2 vs Pacers)
Key Additions: Head Coach Mike Brown, Jordan Clarkson, Guerschon Yabusele
Key Loss: Tom Thibodeau
Biggest Question: What does Mike Brown bring to Thibs’ old blueprint?
Over/Under: 52.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Same core, new rhythm. Brown will trim minutes, saving Brunson & Bridges for May. Towns finally slides to his natural 4 spot beside Robinson. Clarkson replaces the missing spark plug off the bench. The roster screams “continuity plus fresh legs,” which is exactly what contender DNA looks like.
Projected Five: Brunson | Bridges | Anunoby | Towns | Robinson
Expectation: Top-2 seed → Conference Final return
Iconic Dish:
Seared tuna belly with Risotti beans at I Cavallini
Philadelphia 76ers
Last Season: 24-58 | 13th East
Key Additions: VJ Edgecombe, Trendon Watford
Key Loss: Guerschon Yabusele
Biggest Question: Will Joel Embiid ever stay healthy long enough to matter?
Over/Under: 43.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Everything still starts and stops with Joel. If healthy, Embiid + Maxey = instant relevance. If not, it’s another lottery tease. Paul George’s mileage adds drama; Edgecombe is a bright rookie note. The franchise feels like it’s living month to month on an MVP’s knee.
Projected Five: Maxey | Grimes | Edgecombe | George | Embiid
Expectation: Play-In fringe → dependent on Embiid’s calendar
Iconic Dish:
Tom Yum at Kalaya
Toronto Raptors
Last Season: 30-52 | 11th East
Key Additions: Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Murray-Boyles
Key Loss: Chris Boucher
Biggest Question: How does Brandon Ingram fit next to Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett?
Over/Under: 32.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Toronto bet on Ingram’s length and shot-creation to mesh with Barnes’ point-forward game. If the chemistry clicks, this group is a sneaky Play-In bet. If not, the reset clock starts again. Barnes is ready to pop; Ingram just has to blend instead of bend.
Projected Five: Quickley | Barrett | Ingram | Barnes | Poeltl
Expectation: Play-In bid → First-Round exit
Iconic Dish:
Filet at Prime Seafood Palace
CENTRAL DIVISION
Chicago Bulls
Last Season: 39-43 | Lost Play-In
Key Addition: Isaac Okoro
Key Loss: Lonzo Ball
Biggest Question: What exactly are the Bulls doing?
Over/Under: 32.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Chicago hit reset without direction. Giddey’s contract outpaces his jumper, Vucevic lingers on the trade block, and the kids are the only compass. If Coby White and Dosunmu level up again, they’ll hang around .500 — but that’s the problem, not the goal.
Projected Five: Giddey | White | Dosunmu | Buzelis | Vucevic
Expectation: 32-ish wins → just miss the Play-In
Iconic Dish:
Everything at Monteverde
Cleveland Cavaliers
Last Season: 64-18 | Lost East Semis (4-1 vs Pacers)
Key Additions: Lonzo Ball, Thomas Bryant, Larry Nance Jr.
Key Losses: Ty Jerome, Javonte Green, Isaac Okoro
Biggest Question: Can Cleveland finally break through to June?
Over/Under: 55.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
They’re loaded. Mitchell is still the closer, Mobley/Allen the defensive backbone, Garland the metronome. Health is the only threat. Lonzo’s arrival adds ball pressure and pace. Barring another May meltdown, they’re the East’s most complete five-man machine.
Projected Five: Garland | Mitchell | Hunter | Mobley | Allen
Expectation: Top-2 seed → Finals contender
Iconic Dish:
Beef Pastrami Sando at Larder
Detroit Pistons
Last Season: 44-38 | Lost First Round (4-2 vs Knicks)
Key Additions: Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, Javonte Green
Key Losses: Tim Hardaway Jr., Dennis Schröder, Simone Fontecchio
Biggest Question: Can they sustain last year’s leap?
Over/Under: 45.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
No more sneaking up on people. Cade’s craft, Ivey’s shooting, and Ausar’s defense turned heads. Robinson keeps the floor spaced, LeVert runs second units. If they avoid the sophomore slump, Detroit stays a top-6 team.
Projected Five: Cunningham | Ivey | Thompson | Harris | Duren
Expectation: Playoffs → Conference Semis ceiling
Iconic Dish:
Everything at Takoi
Indiana Pacers
Last Season: 50-32 | Lost NBA Finals (4-3 vs OKC)
Key Addition: Jay Huff
Key Losses: Myles Turner, Thomas Bryant
Biggest Question: How do they cope without Tyrese Haliburton?
Over/Under: 39.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Losing Haliburton for the season is a gut punch. Carlisle will milk everything from Siakam and Nembhard, but without Turner anchoring the defense, they’ll slip from elite to scrappy. Still a team that plays smart, even if it can’t soar.
Projected Five: Nembhard | Mathurin | Nesmith | Siakam | Huff
Expectation: Bottom 4-8
Iconic Dish:
Who cares. If you read this far, please support, it’s a coffee’s price to support my 4 hours a night sleeping habit. Maybe I can get blackout blinds.
Milwaukee Bucks
Last Season: 48-34 | NBA Cup Champs / Lost R1 vs Pacers
Key Additions: Myles Turner, Gary Harris, Cole Anthony
Key Losses: Brook Lopez, Damian Lillard, Pat Connaughton
Biggest Question: Will Giannis stay patient with Doc Rivers?
Over/Under: 45.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Turner’s a younger Lopez, which helps the math. But Giannis’ patience has limits. Rivers needs a deep run to quiet the noise. The pieces fit; the vibe is fragile. This could swing either way by Valentine’s Day.
Projected Five: Porter Jr. | Trent Jr. | Kuzma | Giannis | Turner
Expectation: Playoffs → Semifinal finish
SOUTHEAST DIVISION
Atlanta Hawks
Last Season: 40-42 | Lost Play-In to Miami
Key Additions: Kristaps Porziņģis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luke Kennard
Key Losses: Clint Capela, Kobe Bufkin, Larry Nance Jr., Caris LeVert
Biggest Question: Can they capitalize on a soft East?
Over/Under: 46.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
The Porziņģis move was a masterstroke—spacing for Trae Young and real defense behind him. Daniels, Johnson, and Okongwu form a versatile core. If Trae keeps the ball moving, this could be the quietest top-5 finish in basketball.
Projected Five: Young | Daniels | Johnson | Porziņģis | Okongwu
Expectation: Playoffs → First Round exit
Charlotte Hornets
Last Season: 19-63 | 14th East
Key Additions: Kon Knueppel, Collin Sexton, Pat Connaughton, Spencer Dinwiddie
Key Losses: Nurkic, Micić, Okogie, Curry
Biggest Question: Can they stay healthy for once?
Over/Under: 25.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
LaMelo + Miller is fun when it exists, which hasn’t been often. Depth improved; defense did not. The bar is 30 wins, and that would count as progress in Buzz City.
Projected Five: Ball | Miller | Green | Bridges | Williams
Expectation: Lottery team
Miami Heat
Last Season: 37-45 | Lost R1 to Cavs
Key Additions: Norman Powell, Simone Fontecchio, Kasparas Jakučionis
Key Losses: Duncan Robinson, Haywood Highsmith, Kyle Anderson
Biggest Question: Can Spo engineer another miracle?
Over/Under: 36.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Culture never dies, but talent matters. Powell fills some void, Adebayo anchors, Herro’s return will tell the story. Spo can get them to April; beyond that is a reach.
Projected Five: Mitchell | Powell | Wiggins | Adebayo | Ware
Expectation: Play-In berth → short stay
Orlando Magic
Last Season: 41-41 | Lost R1 to Boston
Key Additions: Desmond Bane, Tyus Jones, Jase Richardson
Key Losses: KCP, Cole Anthony, Gary Harris
Biggest Question: Can Bane’s arrival push them to the next tier?
Over/Under: 51.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Orlando addressed its Achilles heel: shooting. Bane’s 40% from deep and Tyus Jones’ steady hand give structure to Banchero and Wagner’s creativity. They’re young, hungry, and ready for prime time.
Projected Five: Suggs | Bane | Wagner | Banchero | Carter Jr.
Expectation: Playoffs → First Round ceiling for now
Washington Wizards
Last Season: 18-64 | 15th East
Key Additions: Tre Johnson, CJ McCollum
Key Losses: Poole, Smart, Brogdon, Bey
Biggest Question: Can the youth movement finally click?
Over/Under: 19.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
There’s real talent here—Sarr, Coulibaly, Carrington, plus steady vets Middleton and McCollum. They’ll lose plenty, but play the right way doing it. Not quite ready to climb yet, but finally heading uphill.
Projected Five: Carrington | McCollum | Middleton | Coulibaly | Sarr
Expectation: Lottery → trending positive
Eastern Conference Outlook
Favorites: Cavaliers, Knicks
Dark Horses: Pistons, Magic
Fringe Playoff Teams: Hawks, Bucks, Celtics
Lottery Pool: 76ers, Bulls, Raptors, Heat, Hornets, Wizards, Nets
Sean’s Line:
Cleveland and New York are the class of the East—built, balanced, and battle-tested. Milwaukee and Detroit sit on the next tier, one chasing patience, the other chasing proof. Below that? A whole lot of “if healthy.”
🌅 WESTERN CONFERENCE
PACIFIC DIVISION
Golden State Warriors
Last Season: 48–34 | Lost West Semis (4–1 vs Timberwolves)
Key Additions: Jimmy Butler, Al Horford, Seth Curry
Key Loss: Kevon Looney
Biggest Question: How much is left in the tank?
Over/Under: 47.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Golden State’s DNA still reads “title contender,” but the roster’s carbon-dated. Jimmy Butler gives them the defensive punch they’ve missed since Andre Iguodala, but he also adds more miles to a rotation already collecting AARP cards. Curry remains generational, but the question is whether he can still bend defenses 75 games a year. Kuminga’s contract drama lingers in the background; the real story is whether the dynasty can squeeze one more playoff run out of an old core before it finally hits EOL.
Projected Five: Curry | Melton | Butler | Green | Horford
Expectation: Play-In team → First Round exit
Los Angeles Clippers
Last Season: 50–32 | Lost First Round (4–2 vs Nuggets)
Key Additions: Bradley Beal, Brook Lopez, Chris Paul, John Collins
Key Losses: Norman Powell, Amir Coffey
Biggest Question: Will the Kawhi situation derail the season?
Over/Under: 45.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
The Clippers have the talent—and the cloud. The NBA’s looming investigation into Kawhi’s contract could hang over everything. If Leonard stays eligible and Harden stays engaged, the offense will hum. Lopez shores up rim defense, Beal’s another microwave scorer, and CP3 is, well, CP3. It’s one of those rosters that looks great on paper and terrifyingly fragile on the court. The West isn’t kind to the fragile.
Projected Five: Harden | Beal | Leonard | Collins | Zubac
Expectation: Play-In contender → high volatility stock
Los Angeles Lakers
Last Season: 50–32 | Lost First Round (4–1 vs Timberwolves)
Key Additions: DeAndre Ayton, Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia
Key Loss: Dorian Finney-Smith
Biggest Question: How far can a fitter Luka Dončić take them?
Over/Under: 47.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
This is Dončić’s franchise now. He looks leaner, sharper, and more deliberate after a monster EuroBasket run. LeBron is still LeBron—unreal at 40—but his minutes must be rationed. Smart and Ayton bring toughness, but the defense will live or die on Ayton’s engagement level. The Lakers can absolutely win 50 games, but every injury or chemistry hiccup chips at that ceiling.
Projected Five: Dončić | Reaves | Hachimura | James | Ayton
Expectation: Conference Semifinals ceiling
Phoenix Suns
Last Season: 36–46 | 11th in West
Key Additions: Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, Nigel Hayes-Davis, Mark Williams, Khaman Maluach
Key Losses: Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Tyus Jones
Biggest Question: Can Devin Booker stomach another rebuild?
Over/Under: 31.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Booker says he’s staying, but how long can a prime star stay patient when the roster looks like a mid-tier EuroLeague mashup? The defense is improved (Brooks + Williams), but the offensive identity vanished with Durant and Beal. Hayes-Davis is intriguing, and Jalen Green might rediscover himself in a new system, but this is a mid-30s win roster dressed like a reboot.
Projected Five: Booker | Green | Brooks | O’Neale | Williams
Expectation: Outside the Play-In → 30-win floor
Sacramento Kings
Last Season: 40–42 | Lost Play-In (vs Dallas)
Key Additions: Dennis Schröder, Drew Eubanks, Dario Šarić
Key Losses: Jonas Valančiūnas, Jake LaRavia
Biggest Question: Will the Kings “Kangz” again?
Over/Under: 38.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
The vibes soured fast in Sacramento. DeRozan, LaVine, and Sabonis make for an offensively gifted, defensively allergic trio. Keegan Murray’s two-way leap is their only hope of escaping mediocrity. There will be fireworks, but the kind that light up the other team’s scoreboard.
Projected Five: Monk | LaVine | DeRozan | Murray | Sabonis
Expectation: Miss the Play-In → 35-win plateau
NORTHWEST DIVISION
Denver Nuggets
Last Season: 50–32 | Lost West Semis (4–3 vs Thunder)
Key Additions: Cam Johnson, Jonas Valančiūnas, Tim Hardaway Jr., Bruce Bowen
Key Losses: Michael Porter Jr., Vlatko Čančar, Dario Šarić
Biggest Question: Can Denver survive non-Jokić minutes?
Over/Under: 53.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
They fixed their biggest flaw. Jonas Valančiūnas finally gives Denver a competent backup center, meaning fewer panic minutes when Jokić sits. Cam Johnson replaces MPJ’s shooting with better defense, and THJ adds spacing. The West still runs through Nikola, but now there’s a safety net when he breathes.
Projected Five: Murray | Braun | Johnson | Gordon | Jokić
Expectation: Top-2 seed → Conference Finals or bust
Minnesota Timberwolves
Last Season: 49–33 | Lost West Finals (4–1 vs Thunder)
Key Additions: Joan Beringer, Johnny Juzang
Key Losses: Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luka Garza, Josh Minott
Biggest Question: Is Anthony Edwards ready to be that guy?
Over/Under: 51.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
The defense is elite, the culture legit, and Edwards is knocking on superstardom’s door. The Wolves don’t have many weaknesses besides health and half-court creation when Ant sits. Rob Dillingham is the future, but Mike Conley’s steadiness keeps the balance.
Projected Five: Conley | Edwards | McDaniels | Randle | Gobert
Expectation: Top-4 seed → Second Round or better
Oklahoma City Thunder
Last Season: 68–14 | NBA Champions
Key Addition: Thomas Sorber
Key Loss: Dillon Jones
Biggest Question: Can OKC go back-to-back?
Over/Under: 62.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
They’re the new dynasty blueprint: homegrown, unselfish, balanced. Gilgeous-Alexander is MVP-level, Holmgren and Jalen Williams are still ascending, and the roster has zero dead money. If anyone can repeat in this parity era, it’s them. The only real opponent is complacency.
Projected Five: SGA | Dort | Jalen Williams | Holmgren | Hartenstein
Expectation: Top seed → Repeat threat
Portland Trail Blazers
Last Season: 36–46 | 12th in West
Key Additions: Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard, Yang Hansen
Key Losses: Ayton, Simons, Walker
Biggest Question: Can Scoot and Sharpe push this team forward?
Over/Under: 32.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Portland’s finally young, exciting, and almost coherent. Sharpe looks ready to score for real; Scoot’s leadership will be tested early after his injury layoff. Jrue adds gravitas, Deni Avdija looks like a real two-way piece, and Camara’s defense pops. Not a playoff team yet, but one worth watching.
Projected Five: Holiday | Sharpe | Avdija | Camara | Clingan
Expectation: Low 30s wins → developmental season
Utah Jazz
Last Season: 17–65 | 15th in West
Key Additions: Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Nurkić, Niang, Love
Key Losses: Clarkson, Sexton, Collins
Biggest Question: Will the Jazz finally move Lauri Markkanen?
Over/Under: 18.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Danny Ainge keeps saying “we’re not tanking,” but the roster keeps arguing otherwise. Markkanen’s value has never been higher, and Bailey is an upside swing, not an immediate fix. Utah will compete, they’ll develop, and they’ll lose. On purpose or not, it doesn’t really matter.
Projected Five: Collier | George | Bailey | Markkanen | Kessler
Expectation: Lottery lock → trade watch
SOUTHWEST DIVISION
Dallas Mavericks
Last Season: 39–43 | Lost Play-In (vs Memphis)
Key Additions: Cooper Flagg, D’Angelo Russell
Key Loss: Spencer Dinwiddie
Biggest Question: Can Cooper Flagg live up to the hype?
Over/Under: 38.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Flagg is the real deal, but it’ll take time. Davis and Kyrie’s health keeps the floor shaky, but the potential is massive. When they’re all healthy, this could be the West’s most volatile top-8 team. When they’re not, it’s déjà vu in Dallas.
Projected Five: Russell | Thompson | Flagg | Davis | Lively II
Expectation: Play-In bubble
Houston Rockets
Last Season: 52–30 | Lost First Round (4–3 vs Warriors)
Key Additions: Kevin Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, Clint Capela, Josh Okogie
Key Losses: Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, Jock Landale
Biggest Question: Can KD still carry a team in May?
Over/Under: 54.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Houston’s timeline sped up fast. Durant’s still elite, Sengün is blossoming into a mini-Jokić, and Amen Thompson’s defense gives them identity. Losing VanVleet for the year hurts, but this team is too deep to fade. They’ll be in every headline come April.
Projected Five: Sheppard | Thompson | Smith Jr. | Durant | Sengün
Expectation: 5–6 seed → First Round or better
Memphis Grizzlies
Last Season: 48–34 | Lost First Round (4–0 vs Thunder)
Key Additions: KCP, Ty Jerome, Jock Landale
Key Losses: Desmond Bane, Luke Kennard, Jay Huff, Marvin Bagley III
Biggest Question: Can Ja Morant play 65 games?
Over/Under: 40.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
It’s the same story every year: if Ja’s available, Memphis wins. If he’s not, they fade. New coach Tuomas Iisalo will run modern sets; KCP adds vet steadiness. But until the franchise cornerstone proves durable, they’ll live on hope and depth charts.
Projected Five: Morant | KCP | Wells | Jackson Jr. | Landale
Expectation: Mid-40s wins → First Round team
New Orleans Pelicans
Last Season: 21–61 | 14th in West
Key Additions: Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, Kevon Looney, Jeremiah Fears, Derik Queen
Key Losses: CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, Bruce Bowen
Biggest Question: Can Zion Williamson finally stay healthy?
Over/Under: 32.5 wins (DraftKings)
Sean’s Line:
Slimmer, faster, and (hopefully) more durable Zion is back, but we’ve heard this song before. Poole brings scoring but not structure; Looney brings stability but not ceiling. If Zion plays 65 games, they sniff the Play-In. If not, it’s another wasted year in the bayou.
Projected Five: Poole | Murphy III | Jones | Williamson | Looney
Expectation: Low 30s wins → just shy of Play-In
San Antonio Spurs
Last Season: 34–48 | 13th in West
Key Additions: Dylan Harper, Kelly Olynyk, Luke Kornet, Carter Bryant
Key Losses: Sandro Mamukelashvili, Chris Paul
Biggest Question: What will the Mitch Johnson era look like?
Over/Under: 43.5 wins
Sean’s Line:
Wembanyama enters Year 2 as the league’s most fascinating player—and now he’s got structure. New coach Mitch Johnson inherits Pop’s defensive framework but will open the offense. Harper and Castle give him fresh ball-handling. This is the leap year if the shooting holds.
Projected Five: Harper | Castle | Vassell | Barnes | Wembanyama
Expectation: Play-In → First Round exit
Western Conference Outlook
Favorites: Thunder, Nuggets, Timberwolves
Contenders: Lakers, Rockets
Dark Horses: Spurs, Warriors
Long Shots: Mavericks, Grizzlies, Kings
Rebuilders: Suns, Blazers, Jazz, Pelicans
Sean’s Line Summary:
The West is still a gauntlet—no nights off, no freebies. OKC looks dynastic, Denver looks restored, and Minnesota looks hungrier than ever. Everyone else? Chasing the gap or buying time.
FINAL WORD — THE 2025 NBA LANDSCAPE:
The league feels as balanced as it has in a decade. Twenty teams have a believable playoff case. Seven have a title case. Nobody, not even the defending champion Thunder, feels untouchable. That’s the NBA in 2025: compressed margins, equal opportunity chaos.
The East is steadier. Cleveland looks like the new model of two-way construction, New York finally shed its old ghosts, and Detroit and Orlando are coming fast behind them. Milwaukee is hanging on to relevance through Giannis’ sheer willpower, while Boston looks oddly mortal for the first time in years.
The West? That’s a street fight. Oklahoma City might be young, but they’re terrifyingly polished — an organization without a weak link. Denver’s still right there, one Jokic performance away from another parade, and Minnesota has a top-three defense that travels. If you’re looking for value, Houston’s over feels tempting (54.5 wins isn’t crazy if KD stays upright), and the Spurs’ over 43.5 has “leap year” written all over it.
On the other end, Phoenix, Utah, and Washington look like long-term patience plays — the kind of teams whose best nights are draft lottery ones.
This season’s betting landscape is less about extremes and more about resilience. Teams with clear hierarchy — a superstar, a system, and a second option who knows his role — will survive the churn. Teams without it will drown in the middle.
So if you’re putting chips on anything this year, bet on structure.
And maybe, just maybe, bet on Shea Gilgeous-Alexander to go back-to-back.
